N6RAS appointed Chief Radio Officer

Peter Barbour, N6RAS has been appointed by the Huntington Beach Emergency Services Office as HB RACES Chief Radio Officer effective June 1, 2005. Peter has served HB RACES as Co-Events Officer, Assistant Radio Officer and most recently as Co-Chief Radio Officer. The change in RACES leadership was prompted by Bill Honeyman's (KG6CNL) relocation to Northern California.

Larry Henderson, KF6ZB was asked to fill the vacant Assistant Radio Officer position. I am pleased to report that Larry has accepted this challenging role. He is looking forward to both keeping Peter in line and helping the HB RACES organization stay focused and ready to respond. Larry brings over 21 years of service with HB RACES to his new role. As the Assistant Radio
Officer, Larry holds the authority to perform all duties of the Chief Radio Officer when I'm unavailable.

Both Larry and I have a strong commitment to continue to improve the HB RACES organization. We will be working to ensure that our personnel have the equipment, knowledge and training that is needed to effectively serve the city of Huntington Beach in an emergency. We will also work to ensure that the management structure of our organization is strong and functional.

We have much to be proud of both as an organization and as amateur radio hobbyists. I hope that each of you renew your commitment to HB RACES and our activities. Continue to make the gifts of your time and efforts which enable us to be a strong and viable resource for the city of Huntington Beach and a role model for others.

New Personnel Officer

Robert Thompson, KE6RKG has accepted the Huntington Beach RACES Personnel Officer position on the RACES management team effective May 2, 2005. Robert has been a RACES member for over 10 years. During those years he worked closely with the CERT organization and helped develop the CERT ham communicator program that is thriving today. Robert was most recently active in the Huntington Beach RACES communication response for the 2005 Baker to Vegas Relay. All personnel matters such as new member inquiries or recommendations and roster data changes should be addressed to Robert. Welcome to the management team Robert and thanks for accepting the challenge.

A sincere thank you goes out to Don Karon, KC6D our outgoing Personnel Officer for his dedicated years of service as a RACES officer. He is now focusing his efforts on a revision of the HB RACES Operation Manual to assist in a rededication of efforts focused on training and preparation for our organization.
